The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee

Man, this show crackles. We saw it at the Kentucky Center tonight and howled laughing through pretty much the whole thing. It's directed by the guy who directed Into The Woods, the show that is the only reason Spelling Bee is my second-favorite thing I've seen on stage.

Magic fooooooooooooooooot...

"May I have the definition, please?"
"Strabismus. A condition in which the two eyes do not point in the same direction when the patient is looking at a distant object."
"May I have it in a sentence, please?"
"Billy exclaimed on the playground, 'I'm not cockeyed! I have a medical condition in which my eyes do not line up properly -- strabismus!' At which point, the bullies hit him harder."

oh my gosh, I saw this in Philly a few months ago - it was hilarious. The best part was when one of the audience members spelled one of the words correctly that they were using to try to get him out. Even the cast was gaping. It was AWESOME. :)
