Total disaster

I'm home visiting my folks, and they're on the South Beach diet. The food in the cabinets is unrecognizable. Some WaWa deli trips will be essential.

I've been reading a lot of food-related blogs tonight. I even went back to your November birthday weekend posts, which was our weekend of gorging. All the while, I have been hungry. I want to cook. But I'm not cooking a lasagna, or baked ziti, or even plain old spaghetti, for just myself. And there's no point in making guacamole to have it turn brown in the fridge before you get back, never mind something like fajitas for one. And forget a cake or brownies or anything like that.

Two nights ago I had a ham sandwich and chicken noodle soup. Last night I had a frozen dinner but that was OK b/c I was at the ER (for work, people, not as a patient) and then some semi-homemade beef stroganoff (Sandra Lee would be proud). Tonight I had a turkey-and-avocado sandwich and then some canned peaches, and now a huge bowl of cereal. I'm trying to avoid carb-loading or fat-loading out of depression, but cereal is OK because milk has calcium. But I really want to cook, for many people. Chili, lasagna, something. Maybe I should make dumplings, because then I'd get the cooking out of my system without having to eat the result (since you make tons and then freeze them for later). But tomorrow I have to study all day, so the urge to do something in the kitchen will be squashed anyway.

p.s. - I occasionally use your blog to express what I could write in my own blog, if I had one, but I don't really have time for a blog. And no one wants to read about Harry-the-Cadaver or phun with physiology.
